PREPARATION
INSTALLING/REPLACING THE
BATTERY
Your walkie-talkie uses one 9 volt battery (not sup-
plied) for power. For the longest life and best perfor-
mance, we recommend you use an alkaline battery
such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-553.
Caution:
Use only a fresh battery of the required
size and recommended type.
Follow these steps to install a battery.
1. Slide the battery compartment cover in the
direction of the arrow to remove it.
Fig. 1
2. Snap the battery onto the battery connector
inside the compartment. The connector only
fits on the battery one way.
4
3. Replace the cover.
When the BATTERY LOW indicator lights, replace
the battery.
Cautions:
• Always remove an old or weak battery. Batter-
ies can leak chemicals that can destroy elec-
tronic parts.
• Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly.
Do not bury or burn them.
5
INSTALLING THE BELT CLIP
Your walkie-talkie comes with a belt clip. To install it,
slide the clip into the slot on the back of the trans-
ceiver until it locks into place.
To remove the belt clip, lift up on the locking tab and
slide the clip out.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Your RadioShack TRC-509 FM Walkie-Talkie is an
example of superior design and craftsmanship. The
following suggestions will help you care for your
walkie-talkie so you can enjoy it for years.
Keep the walkie-talkie dry. If it gets
wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids
might contain minerals that can cor-
rode the electronic circuits.
Use and store the walkie-talkie only in
normal temperature environments.
Temperature extremes can shorten
the life of electronic devices, damage
batteries, and distort or melt plastic
parts.
Keep the walkie-talkie away from dust
and dirt, which can cause premature
wear of parts.
Handle the walkie-talkie gently and
carefully. Dropping it can damage cir-
cuit boards and cases and can cause
the walkie-talkie to work improperly.
9
Use only a fresh battery of the required
size and recommended type. Batteries
can leak chemicals that damage your
walkie-talkie’s electronic parts.
Wipe the walkie-talkie with a damp
cloth occasionally to keep it looking
new. Do not use harsh chemicals,
cleaning solvents, or strong deter-
gents to clean the walkie-talkie.
Modifying or tampering with the walkie-talkie’s inter-
nal components can cause a malfunction and might
invalidate your walkie-talkie’s warranty and void
your FCC authorization to operate it. If your walkie-
talkie is not performing as it should, take it to your lo-
cal RadioShack store for assistance.
10
THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW
Your walkie-talkie might cause TV or radio interfer-
ence even when it is operating properly. To deter-
mine whether your walkie-talkie is causing the
interference, turn off your walkie-talkie. If the inter-
ference goes away, your walkie-talkie is causing it.
Try to eliminate the interference by:
• Moving your walkie-talkie away from the
receiver.
• Contacting your local RadioShack store for
help.
If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC re-
quires that you stop using your walkie-talkie.
